Green groups enter betting game

THE INDIANAPOLIS STAR. FEBRUARY 3, 2010.

The stakes apparently weren't high enough with a bet between Mayor Greg Ballard and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin.

Now, the environmentalists are in on it. On Tuesday, the Hoosier Environmental Council and its New Orleans' counterpart, Global Green USA, announced a "green" wager.

If the Colts win the Super Bowl, a fan will get to spend Jazz Fest Weekend in one of the nation's greenest houses, built as part of Global Green's Holy Cross Project village of homes. The Colts fan also will get dinner for two at New Orleans' legendary Galatoire's restaurant in the French Quarter.

If the Saints win, a fan will enjoy a stay at the Indianapolis home of Anne Laker and Joe Merrick, built in 2003 as a showcase for green products with a geothermal heating system, bamboo floors and recycled glass tile. The Saints fan also will get a trip for two up and down the Indy Wine Trail and dinner at R Bistro.
