About New Orleans
After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the inadequate response of the US Government, Global Green made a dedicated commitment to sustainable building in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.
Through our green affordable housing community the Holy Cross Project, our Build It Back Green initiative - educating residents on how to rebuild in a healthy green way, and our work on greening schools throughout the area, Global Green is committed to creating a green model for the development and rebuilding of New Orleans.
Holy Cross Project
The Holy Cross Project consists of 5 single-family homes, an 18-unit apartment building, and a community center/sustainable design and climate action center. As a landmark sustainable development, the Global Green Holy Cross Project is of vital importance to Global Green, the Holy Cross Neighborhood and the people of New Orleans.
Green Schools New Orleans
In 2004, Global Green launched a new effort, The Green Schools Initiative, focused on greening K-12 schools. When Global Green expanded its effort in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, schools became a critical component of its rebuilding efforts there. The goal of this initiative is to create healthier classrooms and more energy efficient schools that in turn improve student performance and save money for school districts, while helping to protect the environment and reducing carbon emissions. The Green Schools Initiative has been made possible by a grant from the Bush Clinton Katrina Fund.
Build It Back Green
Build It Back Green provides New Orleans homeowners and small rental property owners who have received Road Home Grants with the necessary information, and technical assistance to rebuild in an affordable and sustainable manner.

Global Green Responded to Hurricane Katrina through smart solutions to climate change and the green rebuilding of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast
Immediately after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, Global Green was on the ground in New Orleans, evaluating how we could respond to the disaster. Since then, Global Green has unveiled an aggressive plan to rebuild New Orleans green.
